- Getting to Koh Samui - either
by ferry or by air. Bangkok Airways is currently the only operator
flying
in to Koh Samui. Flights originate in Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya.
Passenger and car ferry transport is available in Surat Thani town and Don Sak.
Transport to Koh Pha Ngan is available at the speedboat pier on Koh Samui - Getting around on Koh Samui You can rent a car, take motorcycle taxis or seelors. A number of resorts have private cars or vans and will pick you up at the airport or pier.
- Resorts on Koh Samui range from (Bt 300) modest guest houses to sumptuous 5 star resorts.
- Chaweng Beach is the busiest beach on Koh Samui with wall-to-wall bars, resorts, restaurants and tourists. Some say it has little resemblance to Thailand.
Chaweng stretches for kilometers along the north eastern shore and is considered by many to be the best beach on the island. Party goers tend to agree. - Lamai Beach is located south of Chaweng and a bit less crowded. Lamai is generally consider more of a family beach than Chaweng.
However, Lamai does indeed have its share of resorts. - Maenam Beach is considered by many to be the 5 star section of Koh Samui beaches. A number of 5 star resorts and up-scale housing estates are located there.
- Big Buddha Beach is named for a large statue of Lord Buddha on a small offshore island. Big Buddha Beach has a much quieter reputation that nearby Chaweng Beach
- Attractions on Koh samui, other than beaches, include nature areas, a private Buddha statue park, a pearl farm and a couple of fishing villages
- Scuba diving Koh Samui is not nearly as good a scuba diving location as nearby Koh Tao. However, some divers prefer the nightlife of Koh samui so take day trips by speedboat to diving sites such as Shark Island.
