Domestic Help in Thailand

Gate at NapaDoi Estates in Chiang Mai, Thailand When you look at Thai people, you will often see fastidious grooming and extraordinarily courtesy. Surely, any Thai would be able to extend that tidiness to a home. Well, sometimes.

New expat families considering domestic help in Thailand often misunderstand the subtleties involved. Let's hope you are fortunate enough to find experienced domestics.

Domestic Staff

If "staff" sounds like more of a problem than "housekeeper" does, do a quick assessment of your family's needs .. and wants. What it actually comes down to is who will be doing which chores.
  • Who will be cooking?
  • Do you have infant children?
  • Who will do day-to-day market shopping?
  • Will you be needing a driver?
  • Someone needs to cut the grass and tidy the garden.

Thai Domestics & Expectations

You probably should not expect too much before you start experiencing living among your staff. Not that you will be disappointed, just that your staff will merge their own subtleties into their chores.

But once the training is done, a good domestic staff makes living in Thailand a true joy. And the better news is that as staff that addresses the requirements stated above, should be available for between Bt 40,000 to Bt 75,000/month.
